Analisis Beban Kerja Mental saat Mengoperasikan Smartphone dengan Memperhatikan Postur Tubuh: Pendekatan Menggunakan Metode NASA-TLX

Work physiology is the study of understanding how the human body adapts and functions in the work environment. Occupational physiology involves the study of the body's physiological responses to work-related demands and stress. This understanding is necessary to protect workers' health and welfare, as well as increase work productivity and efficiency. This research aims to analyze physiological workload by focusing on measuring mental workload, using the NASA-TLX method. Research activities were carried out on 12 students from the Department of Industrial Engineering, Universitas Mataram. Students were divided into 3 groups according to their assigned work posture, namely standing (Group A), sitting (Group B), and lying down (Group C). The results showed that the order of subjects with the highest mental workload was subject 1A (78.97%) with a standing posture, 2B (77.33%) with a sitting posture, and 4A (73.57%) with a standing posture. Based on these results, the final conclusion that can be drawn is that the mental workload in standing and sitting postures is what is most felt by the subject when operating the smartphone. Utilization of Immersive Virtual Reality as an Interactive Method of Assignment Presentation

Virtual reality is a technology with many possible uses and ways to improve various processes, including the presentation of results. This paper deals with the utilization of virtual reality as a tool for assignment presentation. During the classes of manufacturing and assembly systems design, the conventional form of presentation was replaced with immersive virtual reality, where the students would present their work while wearing the virtual reality headset and walking around the 3D model of their design. The main goal was to test whether this approach had a positive impact on the students’ motivation and engagement in the presentation creation and presenting itself. To test this approach, a small case study took place at the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Žilina. In conclusion, the overall responses to this experiment were positive; the majority of the students felt more comfortable while presenting and more motivated to put more effort into their preparation. Wearing a virtual reality headset caused the students not to have to directly face the audience, giving them more confidence while presenting. Additionally, the novelty of the virtual reality technology made the students more engaged in showing their work. There is a plan to integrate the virtual reality presentation as the stable part of this assignment.

Evaluation of Thermomechanical Properties in a 2D Rotational Elastocaloric Prototype: A Numerical Study for Enhanced Energy Efficiency

AbstractSo far, much of the research on the caloric effect has focused on the magnetocaloric effect, which was the first investigated chronologically, in the field of room temperature for about 40 years. Subsequently and especially in the last decade, scientific research has focused on the development of solid-state technologies other than the magnetocaloric one, including the one of interest for this work: elastocaloric technology. This work is part of the “SUSSTAINEBLE” project of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University Federico II of Naples, aimed at developing the first Italian prototype of an elastocaloric device for environmental conditioning. The prototype is currently in the experimental development phase and its design and construction are dynamically accompanied by a two-dimensional numerical model that fully reproduces its thermo-fluid dynamic operation. The rotary-type prototype consists of 600 Nickel Titanium wires subjected to loading and unloading phases controlled by a properly programmed optical encoder. The thermo-fluidic medium that regulates heat transfer is air. The aim is to characterize the operation of the elastocaloric device using numerical analysis software in order to optimize its geometric, operational, and environmental parameters, to maximize its energy performance in terms of temperature difference, useful thermal power, and coefficient of performance.

From Value Stream Mapping to Choreographic Tension Mapping: Preliminary Results and Insights from an Exploratory Study

ABSTRACT Value Stream Mapping (VSM), a lean manufacturing technique, is a process analysis approach that focuses on value and waste. This project explored the development and incorporation of a VSM-inspired tool to help dance composition students consider the value present in their choreography explicitly. The proposed Choreographic Tension Mapping (CTM) tool was incorporated into an upper-level dance composition course in the Dance Program in collaboration with the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Florida. Students used this tool multiple times throughout the semester. They responded to a set of prompts to reflect on their experience of using CTM and its impact on their creative processes. Students’ responses to one of the prompts were qualitatively analyzed. The preliminary findings demonstrated the potential benefits of the use of CTM to support the development of skills in choreographing, collaborating in a group, and giving constructive feedback in dance composition education.

Effect of music tempo on reaction time during study: an investigation on university students

Several studies have been conducted to reveal the impact of specific music on cognitive functions. However, the effect of music tempo of human intelligence still holds great potential for further research. The purpose of this research is to examine the influence of specific music tempos (adagietto, moderato, and assai) on the concentration levels of students at Diponegoro University during the study. This experiment uses the stroop task paradigm in a design experiment within the subject from August to September 2023. The study involved a total of 42 participants from the Industrial Engineering Department with four treatment conditions (no distraction, adagietto tempo, moderato tempo, and assai tempo). Data collection was carried out for each treatment at a 24-hour interval. Then, the result data for the three variables (accuracy, reaction time, & stroop effect) are analyzed. The results of the statistical analysis indicate a significant increase in reaction time with ρ < 0.05 (0.004 < 0.05). The post hoc test indicates a significant difference between non-music treatment and assai tempo with ρ < 0.05 (0.008 < 0.05). The tempo assai treatment resulted in higher reaction times compared to the no music treatment, with values of 772.826 ms and 665.489 ms, respectively.

Transforming Industrial Engineering Education: Introducing the CWILE Model for Work-Integrated Learning in the Digital Age

Thailand's industrial sector has made significant progress in adopting and implementing technology associated with Industry 4.0. As technology advances and industries become more digitally driven, a skilled and adaptable workforce becomes paramount. The responsibility for cultivating such human resources lies with educational institutions. They are the foundation for developing a workforce that can thrive in the digital age by staying responsive to industry trends, fostering business collaboration, and prioritising technical and soft skills. Work-integrated learning (WIL) is one of the educational programs that can help improve student skills by integrating the theoretical exploration of a particular subject with its practical implementation within a professional environment. The WIL program enables individuals to demonstrate competence, expertise, and the capacity to keep up with contemporary technologies. This paper proposes the new WIL model for the WIL program in the industrial engineering profession, known as the CWILE model. The study aims to identify and establish the benefits of the CWILE model. These benefits include enhanced skill development, improved readiness for industry demands, and a seamless transition from education to the workforce. The initial step in the research procedure involved collecting stakeholders' perspectives on the existing WIL program in the industrial engineering department of the engineering faculty at Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL), Thailand. Following stakeholder feedback, the CWILE model was developed and implemented with the participation of eighteen students in the WIL program. The effectiveness of the CWILE model was assessed through a comprehensive evaluation of student competencies: core competency, functional competency, and professional competency. The evaluations were conducted at three distinct intervals: before, during, and after instruction. This longitudinal assessment allows a nuanced understanding of how the WIL program influences student competencies. The results of this study show that the duration of attending the WIL program is positively correlated with an increase in all competencies.

Influence of Noncondensable Gas–Dust Mixture on Direct Contact Condensation of Steam at Atmospheric Pressure

Abstract At the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering (DICI) of the University of Pisa, an experimental research program, funded by International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Organization, concerning steam direct condensation in a flux containing also noncondensable gas and dust, was carried out. This mixture of fluids and dust is injected into the ITER pressure suppression tanks during a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) in the Vacuum Vessel. The aim of the research program is to determine the steam condensation efficiency in such conditions. Experimental tests were performed injecting this mixture in a tank partially filled with water. Alumina was used to simulate the actual dust present in the ITER Vacuum Vessel. Mass flow rates, temperature, and pressure of the different fluids involved were recorded during the tests. The steam condensation into the subcooled water pool at a temperature ranging between 318 and 369 K was investigated to determine the condensation regimes occurring during the mixture injection. The values of the fraction of the energy absorbed by water, dust, and metallic structures of the heat losses and of the average heat transfer coefficient were determined considering pure steam, steam-dust and steam-air–dust injection. The average heat transfer coefficient, determined calculating the steam jet surfaces by means of image elaboration, was compared with empirical correlations.

There were four speakers in this webinar who presented various topics related to digital era and how young Generation Z should adapt with the situation so that they could benefit and success in the future.  After the presentation from the speakers, the participants could ask the questions regarding the topics. In this conference, more than 100 participants particated online via zoom.

Development of PBL on technopreneur education to encourage faster technology commercialization

PurposeThis research aims to assess and compare project-based learning (PBL) designs to deliver technopreneur in higher education, as a case student of the Industrial Engineering Department. So, it can facilitate students who play a role in facilitating the process of technological transformation so the student knows well how to solve the problem of commercialization.Design/methodology/approachUndergraduate students of Industrial Engineering teams were given hands-on, collaborative projects conducted with two incubation centers, such as the Technology Incubator Center from the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (AAAT) from the government of Indonesia and the Centre of Excellence for Electrical Energy Storage Technology (CEfEEST) from Sebelas Maret University (UNS), Indonesia. After completing the project, students will develop a final project which will become the basis for evaluating the implementation of PBL. The basis for the assessment uses a rubric designed through three sub-assessments: curriculum planning, report and presentation. This research uses the paired t-test method to see the average difference between the two groups of PBL in pairs and compare based on assessment results.FindingsImplementing PBL between the two incubation centers (AAAT and CEfEEST) based on paired t-tests for each rubric assessment indicator showed most of them were significantly related. The assessment result gives the alternative to design the proposed PBL from AAAT, CEfEEST and a blended scenario for technopreneur education in the future.Practical implicationsThe experiences and findings presented can help future PBLs provide technopreneur education based on comparing and evaluating learning outcomes in both incubation centers. Thus, it can produce a better PBL design to encourage the success of technology commercialization.Originality/valueThe assessment of PBL on students' knowledge in technopreneur education by utilizing the paired t-test method to compare the assessment results of the final projects with the designed assessment rubric. This evaluation serves as the basis for comparing the effectiveness of PBL implementation between AAAT and CEfEEST.

The aim of this activity is to provide knowledge about basic statistics and the application of statistical software package for classroom action research. Senior high school teachers from 4 schools participated in this workshop. They were provided with the basic knowledge of statistics, the use of statistics and research methodology for classroom action research and how to apply Minitab to help in data calculation and interpretation. During workshop, the participants were demonstrated the use of Minitab in the laboratory of Statistics and, Industrial Engineering Department, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia.

Enhancing sEMG-Based Finger Motion Prediction with CNN-LSTM Regressors for Controlling a Hand Exoskeleton

In recent years, the number of people with disabilities has increased hugely, especially in low- and middle-income countries. At the same time, robotics has made significant advances in the medical field, and many research groups have begun to develop low-cost wearable solutions. The Mechatronics and Dynamic Modelling Lab of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Florence has recently developed a new version of a wearable hand exoskeleton for assistive purposes. In this paper, we will present a new regression method to predict the finger angle position of the first joint from the value of the sEMG of the forearm and the previous position of the finger itself. To acquire the dataset necessary to train the regressor a specific graphical user interface was developed which was able to acquire sEMG data from a Myo armband and the finger position from a Leap Motion Controller. Two long short-term memory (LSTM) models were compared, one in its standard configuration and the other with a convolutional layer, yielding significantly better performance for the second one, with an increase in R2 coefficient from an average value of 0.746 to 0.825, leading to the conclusion that a convolutional layer could increase performance when few sensors are available.

Prioritization of factors influencing outsourcing maintenance decisions in thermal power plants – A case study

PurposeAlthough the factors that affect the decision of outsourcing are variant from one industry to another and from one application to another, this paper aims to investigate the factors that influence the decision of outsourcing using a systematic literature review (SLR) approach to fill the gap of the literature and focus on maintenance activities in terms of industrial firms. Furthermore, the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method will be developed to prioritize the important factors according to the experts' judgments and reveal the factors' weights to support decision-makers in thermal power plants to realize the factors that have a high impact on outsourcing maintenance decisions and enhance their decision-making to increase power plant competitive advantages over quality, availability and safety requirements.Design/methodology/approachThe purpose of this research is to prioritize the factors that influence outsourcing maintenance decisions to be considered by decision-makers in power plants before making a decision of outsourcing maintenance activities. In this research, an SLR approach was applied to identify the factors in terms of industry and rank them accordingly using factors' frequency process. A questionnaire survey was designed to seek the experts' opinions to prioritize the factors that influence the decision of outsourcing maintenance activities in power companies using AHP. The research found that “Improve service quality”, “acquire new skills or technical knowledge” and “Function difficult to manage” have the first priority before making the decision of outsourcing maintenance activities in the context of power plants.FindingsThe decision of outsourcing regarding maintenance activities in the context of industry, as well as determining the most critical factors among the extracted factors from the literature and rank them accordingly using factors' frequency process. Next, a questionnaire survey was designed and conducted to seek the experts' opinions to prioritize the factors that influence the decision of outsourcing concerning maintenance activities in thermal power companies using AHP method. According to the SLR, industrial companies are mainly pursuing outsourcing maintenance services to focus on core activities, save overall costs and improve service quality.Originality/valueThis is an original research paper out of an MSc thesis submitted at the Industrial Engineering Department, University of Jordan.

Structural assessment of the stalled building in Department of Industrial Engineering, Andalas University, Indonesia

The construction of the Industrial Engineering Department building is an effort to support the educational infrastructure at Andalas University. However, the building construction process was stopped because the contractor had terminated the contract (breach of contract) and it took a long time to continue the construction. Before that, a structural evaluation of the building structure should be conducted due to the update of the building standards. In this study, the structural evaluation was carried out by analyzing and modelling the building using ETABS v.18 software, as well as loading analysis on the building regarding current Indonesian building standards such as SNI 1726-2019 for earthquake resistance building design, SNI 2847-2019 for requirements of the structural concrete building and SNI 1727-2020 for building minimum design loads. The results of the analysis show that several structural beams did not have a strong enough capacity to withstand the working loads, where the ultimate moment and shear values due to the influence of acting loads were more than the nominal moments and shear values. Retrofitting of the weak structural beams using the CFRP wrapping method was recommended to improve the structural capacity of the building.

Alternative window wall ratio of glasses with different solar heat gain coefficient and solar transmittance and their effect on total energy consumption in alternative directions

Energy simulation model of the building of Eskişehir Technical University Industrial Engineering Department Academic and Administrative Staff rooms were created in this study carried in the scope of energy efficiency and performance of buildings. In the aforementioned energy simulation mode, in line with the International Measurement, Verification and Energy Needs Standards and Protocol (IPMVP) “energy consumption verification”; heating energy, indoor-outdoor environment and climate data were defined, energy consumption verification was carried out and a realistic model was achieved. Using the realistic model achieved, alternative directions were applied to alternative window wall ratios thereby calculating “reference energy consumptions” in “reference building models”. EVALUATION OF THE FLIPPED CLASSROOM SET-UP FOR FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING, CTU-ARGAO, CEBU PHILIPPINES

The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated changes in higher education, leading to the adoption of more adaptable, effective, and student-centered educational methods. The flipped classroom, which involves moving information transmission online and utilizing face-to-face class time for active learning, has gained popularity in this context. This study evaluates the readiness of the flipped classroom set-up for face-to-face classes at the Department of Industrial Engineering, CTU-Argao, Cebu, Philippines, as a prevention measure against the spread of the COVID-19 virus. A modified survey questionnaire from the study of Youhasan, P. et la., (2021) was adopted and used in the study. The 20-item questionnaire assessed personal readiness, technological readiness, environmental readiness, pedagogical readiness and a checklist was used to evaluate classroom facilities. The analysis of the survey results was conducted using quantitative statistics. The study found that the flipped classroom model has a high possibility of being implemented based on respondents’ positive perception of its technological readiness. Respondents expressed willingness and interest in engaging and developing their skills in this setup. However, concerns were identified in terms of environmental readiness, particularly with access to computers and high-speed internet. Pedagogical readiness was also observed, with respondents showing capability to adapt to sudden changes from online classes to flipped classroom setups. The study also highlighted compliance with health protocols in accordance with CHED-DOH Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2021-001. The paper suggests that flipped classrooms can be considered as an alternative or viable solution to the challenges posed by COVID-19, and provides guidance for implementation in an industrial engineering course.

Benefiting from diversified modern medical measurement equipment, a large number of medical images will be produced in the clinical process. These images improve the diagnostic accuracy of doctors, but also increase the labor burden of doctors. Deep learning technology is expected to realize an auxiliary diagnosis and improve diagnostic efficiency. At present, the method of deep learning technology combined with attention mechanism is a research hotspot and has achieved state-of-the-art results in many medical image tasks. This paper reviews the deep learning attention methods in medical image analysis. A comprehensive literature survey is first conducted to analyze the keywords and literature. Then, we introduce the development and technical characteristics of the attention mechanism. For its application in medical image analysis, we summarize the related methods in medical image classification, segmentation, detection, and enhancement. The remaining challenges, potential solutions, and future research directions are also discussed.
